Starting a Home Gym

Are you looking for a way to get into shape for summer the easy way? Want to tone your body in one of the motivational and comfortable environments possible?
According to recently release statistics by the International Health Racquet and Sports club Association a significant proportion of the people performing “gym workouts” are not training at a gym…
…they are training at home. (more research and information here)
If you are part of the 2% of the population currently achieving satisfactory results from your gym contract, then you don’t have to read this, (just pack your weights away after you have finished please.)
If you are part of the 98% who are dissatisfied with your fitness or physique and have not found the way forward then this article could be for you.
.
So you have tried training at a gym and didn’t like it? Don’t despair; Statistics show that less than 50% of gym members ever go in for a single workout! Of those who begin training more than 75% will drop out of the program within three months. You are normal.
So the question in what to do next? Don’t like running, cant swim, cant balance of roller blades.
What about training at home?
“That’s for the rich and famous” I hear you say.
Not so fast. Personal training was just for the “rich and famous” ten years ago. Now more than 25% of commercial gym revenue is derived from this activity.
Why would you want to go to the trouble of building a gym at home?
• Everyone at home knows how fat you are, no need to try and hide anything!
• No driving to the gym means less wasted time on the road
• No more athletes foot for those that need to shower at the gym
• No more searching for parking
• No more break locker thefts
• No more waiting for treadmills and equipment during the peak time rush
• And you get to train in the most comfortable environment you know
.
So what is a home gym?
Home gyms can consist of anything from a bench and a few dumbbells to a fully fledged facility serving as a status symbol as well as an amenity.
Home gyms like home theatres are fast becoming a way to state the wealth of the home owner, and add value and prestige to a home.
Although home gyms will vary in shape, size and appearance there are three basic elements.
.
1. Cardiovascular exercise, including treadmills, bikes, steppers. Elliptical trainers and my favourite; the Water Rower
2. Strength. A good quality multi gym, (anything much under R10 000 may be a bit too light weight) as well as some dumbbells and an adjustable bench]
3. Floor work with an aerobics ball and mat. This would cater for some core training and stretching.
What’s the difference between home equipment and the stuff at the gym?
The home equipment does not have to cater for 12 hours of usage per day and unless you are an enormous bodybuilder then the equipment does not have to withstand the massive weight that commercial equipment has to cater for. This means cheaper equipment.
How do you go about designing a home gym?
Setting up a home gym is easier than many people think. There are some very reputable suppliers out in the market place, some of whom offer consulting services to help you with your project. The best thing about this is that some suppliers will even design a layout and include a 3 d CAD drawing for free if you place your order with them.
What you need is some space, (10 square metres and up), some money, and the motivation to get the job done after getting a quote.
Begin With a correct analysis of your needs and resources. Simply answer the following questions:
.
1. What are your goals? What do you want to achieve? And how seriously do you want to get there? Simply vague ideas such as “I really must lose weight” won’t do. When it comes to your health start to think like you do when you deal with your retirement provisions; start yesterday and be disciplined and specific.
.
2. How much do you have to spend? Depending on what you want a functional home gym could cost as little as R20 000 with a treadmill adjustable bench, dumbbell set and aerobics ball. Before trying to save too much money here remember we are setting something up that will last for many years. Treat the purchases as you would any addition to your house.
.
3. How much space do you have? Some treadmills fold up to save space and some dumbbell racks are designed vertically. I have set up a small facility in a space of 8 square metres before. Ensure that there is some ventilation and electricity supply if you want a treadmill.
.
4. Get a program. A reputable supplier will be able to assist you with a program as well as advise you where to go to find a qualified personal trainer. Contact me for further information. Miles (071 863 7398) or mail me on miles@gym4me.com
If you are part of the 98% mentioned above and have just not got around to enrolling at, or enduring a gym then the chances are that you won’t be joining one soon. Now is the time to stop kidding yourself. No matter how much money and material possessions you accumulate, if you don’t have your health and good fitness levels then you won’t enjoy life to the fullest
So can you imagine and time and place in the very near future where a better physique or improved health would be of benefit to you? What are those situations? If you could go back a year then what would you change about your health and body right now?
Why not let yourself float into that picture now and relish the feelings of having done something good for your body and soul? Does that feel like the right thing to do?
Go on, build your home gym today.

Gym Equipment for Private Homes
The Home Gym and Gym Equipment for Private Homes
There are many reasons why people would choose to train at home. Gym4me.com, in conjunction with various partners offers an easy way to train at home and achieve measurable results.
We offer various packages which include online assistance, programs, fitness and health assessments as well as the supply of high quality long lasting equipment.
Home gym Equipment is available in the same forms as you would find in your commercial gym, such as;
Rowing machines, treadmills, elliptical trainers, recumbent cycles, exercise bikes, exercise steppers machines, spinning bikes and other health equipment ranges.
You can also find all of your weight training favourites at a cheaper price such as barbells, dumbbells and multi gyms.
Making the investment in home gym training equipment is a big decision and cutting your budget down too much will ensure your failure. Too many times we hear clients tell us, “we are not sure that we will stick to the program so we don’t want to spend too much”
Why the Supermarket equipment never seems to work
Invariably these clients go to a supermarket, buy a piece of exercise equipment such as a multi-gym from a shops sales person who can offer very little advice. In addition cheap gym equipment is exactly that. It may breakdown easily and be exceptionally uncomfortable to use. This further discourages you for using the equipment and further challenges your ability to achieve results.
Spares and Back up
Much of the cheaper equipment on the market these days has little or no back up. When investing in a home gym, just as investing in your kitchen or home entertainment theatre, you would no doubt want the equipment to last you many years. It is then imperative that you choose a brand with strong support structures.
About us.
We not understand equipment but after more than 20 years in training clients we understand human nature.
Call me today for a free consultation and quote on converting that spare space into a functional and attractive home fitness centre.

Home Treadmills for Sale
Making the decision on the treadmill
Do you feel the need to buy a treadmill? Have a look at what I say here then contact me by phone (071 863 7398) or email:fitness@gym4me.com
I get a lot of people calling me because they are undecided in terms of the treadmill they should be buying. Here are five things I would ask:
So I would assume that you have shopped around, got some prices, set your budget, and now you are ready to make that decision. What should you be asking especially when comparing those last options?
1. Have you checked the available space at your house? Power points, ventilation etc. Do you have limited space? Don’t despair; look at Folding treadmills instead of smaller treadmills.
2. When do you want it? Does the company have stock? When you get that motivation to buy then you want to GET THAT TREADMILL NOW! Call me for availability of treadmills throughout South Africa. 071 863 7398 or email fitness@gym4me.com
3. Spares and servicing and how reputable is the manufacturer. The country is littered with “good deals” Treadmills brought over as once off purchases and sold off by shady operators. That’s why I say never buy a second hand treadmill and do your homework. Contact me to learn more about reputable vendors in South Africa.
4. What else does the company do? Is this a company committed to the Health and Fitness industry? There are only two basic categories of treadmills, those that are backed up and those that are not. I know all of the companies who DO offer the right service. Contact me and I will gladly share my information.
5. Are you ready to DO IT NOW? Motivation means to move. You have taken your investigations this far,
you have the information you have the desire to make changes in your life, all that you might lack is that motivation to make it happen.
It’s that last thing that holds us all back: “procrastination”. Well let me tell you a little story about procrastination and why I don’t procrastinate any more.
Three years ago a friend of mine walked into a nightclub and dropped dead of a heart attack. He was 46 years old and had been planning to get back into the gym for quite some time.
He had also been experiencing some shortness of breath and chest cramps and he was definitely going to see the Dr some time soon.
Now I can’t speak for all of you reading this but what I can say is this; if you make the decision today, to move ahead and start your exercise program, buy your equipment, or just make some changes to your lives then you are one in 1000 people that will do it.
That’s right, 999 people on average will procrastinate and the good intentions will remain nothing but good intentions. Had my friend gone to the GP about his chest pains the week before then he may still be here.
Had my friend started his exercise program when we had started talking about it more than a year previously then he may still be with us.
Of course some of you may be saying that he may have died anyway, and of course you would be right by saying that. That is the voice that makes us procrastinate, the one that says, it won’t happen to me. I can browse the web for a treadmill for another week…month…year… I have forever… You don’t have forever
YES you can afford it
YES you can put half an hour to one side three times per week to use it
YES you can get that younger, leaner body back
YES you can have all of the energy and fitness levels back that you had in your youth.
YES exercise will add years to your life and life to your years
The only questions that YOU need to answer is this. Are you prepared to put in some effort and spend R10 per day to be able to use a decent treadmill?
If you have read up to here then its time to TAKE ACTION. Stop looking for reasons to leave it another year.
In the famous words of Edward Stanley : “Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness”
